Faculty Resources

This page offers information on how faculty members can access STAR and enter grades.

STAR accounts

STAR is how you view your class roster, enter grades, view advising transcripts and maintain personal information.

You may login to STAR using your WVUID (or 700 number). Your WVUID should have been issued to you through HR. If you do not have your WVUID, visit  login.wvu.edu.

Once you obtain your WVUID, you can log-in to  STAR as follows:

1. If the stop-light is green, STAR is available. Select the red STAR Access link on the right.

2. Select Faculty & Advisor Login.

3. Read the 1st Time Login instructions carefully and apply them.  Important note: This is also where you can come when you forget your password to reset it in the future.

4. Follow the screens to set-up your 6-character password (alpha or numeric in any non-offensive combination).

5. Re-enter your new password and set-up your security question.

6. Read and agree to terms.

To obtain your MIX ID through STAR, select Personal Information, View Addresses and Phones. You will find your MIX ID under the MIX User Name and E-Mail, UserName. However, if you are entering grades, you can remain in STAR and enter your grades directly.

Entering grades

Final grades

Final grades are due 48 hours after your last final. However, you may continue to enter final grades until the portal closes. Email reminders will be sent through Groupwise and MIX.

Login to STAR via the  WVU Portal.

1. Click the “Faculty” link.

2. Select the term in the box, then click “submit.”

3. Click the “Final Grades” link.

4. Select the CRN of the course you are going to enter grades for, then click “submit.”

5. Begin entering the grades for each student by clicking the box under the “grade” column and selecting the grades to be assigned. If a grade of “W” has already been assigned, it means that the student has withdrawn from the class and you cannot assign another grade for the student.

NOTE: You should be aware that using the wheel on the mouse to scroll down the page could change your assigned grade for a student. We recommend using the scroll bar on the side.

NOTE: There is a 20-minute time limit for each screen of 25 students. If it takes you more than 20 minutes to work that screen, click “submit” at the bottom of the screen to save your work. You can then continue to enter grades for the rest of the students. Click “submit” before you select the next list of 25 students by clicking “25-50.” You can also change the grade assigned to a student by selecting a new grade and click submit again.

NOTE: If you assign an “F” to a student who stopped attending class some time during the term, please remember to post a date of last attendance or date of last quiz, exam or assignment received in the ‘Last Attend Date’ field.

NOTE: Any grade recorded as an ‘NR’ (Not Reported) must be changed within one semester at the conclusion of grading. Any grade of ‘NR’ not changed within the one semester time frame will become a grade of ‘F.’

These instructions were adapted from WVU Faculty Information.
